Strawman
A strawman proposal is a basic draft intended to spur on discussion to iterate and build upon an original design. Separately, a strawman fallacy is an argument that distorts the opposing stance to make it easier to attack and win.
Why it matters
Whilst not a particularly contentious term, this is an example where 'man' is used as a default gender to describe something. Unless useful to specify gender, using gender neutral phrases help set a broader welcoming tone in the language that surrounds us.
