Widow
Specifically in typesetting terms, a 'widow' is a metaphor referring to the last line of the paragraph that falls at the beginning of the following column or page separating it from the remaining text. See also 'orphan'. Please note the name Scottish Widows is used appropriately in its literal sense as it genuinely relates to the company's origin story supporting widows of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815.
Why it matters
Unnecessarily vivid and potentially upsetting term to use in the context far removed from bereavement. Specifically, this can trigger unwarranted personal memories of trauma and upsetting situations.
