Half Pregnant
The saying "You can't be half pregnant", similar to "You can't be half a saint", has been used to convey the idea that something either is or isn't the case. This is often applied to situations where there are no middle grounds or compromises e.g. being on the fence about committing to a project or responsibility. "Half pregnant" may also be used to describe a project which is partway through development and not ready to launch.
Why it matters
Pregnancy is sensitive topic for many people, including anyone trying to conceive, who have experienced trauma or loss. It's not usually obvious who has experienced such things and so adopting more descriptive and less emotive phrases can help avoid unnecessary upset.
